For those that have not heard the devastating news, we lost the man whose dream and vision created our company, a leader in both the fireworks and event industry, and the patriarch of our Pyrotex family, Mr. Randy Beckham. His story culminated into the legacy that will continue long after he is gone.
Randy’s funeral service was more like open mic night at the local comedy club. Employees wore Hawaiian shirts (Randy’s version of dressing up), songs were sung, and family played kazoos! Friends, family, current and previous employees, fire marshals, city officials, event industry partners, and school companions were all in attendance to honor this great man by sharing stories, jokes, and the way that Randy touched and influenced their lives. This past Saturday, we held a second memorial which was expected – a firework show. The City of Garland allowed us to use their Family Fun Night event to honor Randy. The shells were lovingly decorated with inside jokes, sayings, and remembrances of Randy by the crew. The show was kicked off with a sound byte of Randy’s voice counting down his final show design.
The question we get most often, after condolences, stories and jokes that were passed down and influenced by Randy, is where do we go from here. Last summer, Randy had entered his own version of retirement and the remaining corporate office employees, General Manager – Derek Willingham, Production Manager – Patrick Mahaffey, and Sales Director – Paige Mejia, have been running the daily operations of the company since that time. We will continue to do so as we build on Randy’s dream for the future. The quality of product, focus on safety, crew training, and amazing show designs that you have grown to love about our company will remain the same. We are currently researching new effects to add to our “arsenal” as well as updating some of our policies and procedures. We are still available for regulation trainings, industry education, and, of course, firework shows across Texas!
We thank you for your continued support. With your patronage, we will continue creating “Pyro as Art, Pyro with Attitude” and painting the sky in honor of Randy Beckham.
